Suspect arrested for impersonating a police officer

Masotsha added that the officers asked the suspect what he did for a living and his response raised suspicion that he was not a police officer.

A tip off from a member of the public led to the arrest of a man impersonating a police officer.

A suspect was recently arrested by the Norwood police for impersonating a police officer.
Norwood police spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha confirmed that on 10 November police received a tip-off informing them that there was a suspicious motor vehicle at a garage in Oaklands.

“On their arrival, they spotted a car fitted with a police blue light on the dashboard with the driver inside. They identified themselves to the driver and asked for permission to search which was granted to them,” he said.

Masotsha added that the officers asked the suspect what he did for a living and his response raised suspicion that he was not a police officer.
He said the man was arrested for impersonating a police officer and his rights were explained to him. The blue light was confiscated and taken to Norwood Police Station for safe-keeping as evidence.

Masotsha said on 13 November the suspect appeared in court and his bail application was denied and would re-appear for a bail application after seven working days while he was still in custody.

Masotsha applauded the member of the public who gave police the tip-off. “I again encourage members of the public to keep being an eye of the nation by reporting all criminal activities.”
