Parktown High School for Girls recently hosted their valediction ceremony for the matric Class of 2020.
Marketing manager at the school Kerry Liss said it was with regret that they had to host the function without parents due to Covid-19 regulations. The event was streamed for families.
The following awards were presented to learners on the day:
- Dux Scholarum and Elizabeth Hedding Award: Madiha Acoob
- Awards to the President and Deputy Presidents of the Representative Council of Learners: Vhutshilo Muambadzi (president), Dineo Kwetepane (deputy president) and Maryam Suleman (deputy president)
- Matric ’98 Cup for Endeavour (award made in recognition of endeavour and consistent effort in all subjects): Sphokuhle Mmbadi
- Stefanie Rädel Memorial Award (award made in recognition of being a motivating and enthusiastic person who is willing to help others shine: Zayaan Paruk
- Collier Cup (award for service to the school community made to a learner who is not a representative council of learners’ councillor): Fikile Phumelo Tsoke
- Rotary Good Citizenship Award (made in recognition of service to the broader community and for good citizenship): Anna Conradie
- Anthea Cereseto Award (award made to a learner not on the RCL but who has proven to be an emerging leader in the school): Kamogelo Phele
- Old Parktonian Award (best all-rounder: academic, sports, leadership, culture, service): Ammaarah Badsha
18 learners also received academic honours.
Academic honours are awarded to a learner who obtains a re-award of Academic Full Colours, with an average above 80 per cent:

Due to circumstances, the school was unable to host their annual Night of Stars function. They did, however, see learners complete the nationals for the cultural and sportswoman of the year and learners voted for the 2021 sport and cultural captains.
- Sportswoman of the year finalists were: Elmarie Fourie, Erin Helling, Rosalie James, Vhutshilo Muambadzi and Izabella Fourie. The winner was Elmarie Fourie for her involvement in hockey and soccer.
- Cultural woman of the year finalists were: Katlego Chamane, Tali Esterhuysen, Dineo Kwetepane, Khathutshelo Mamanyuha and Siphosihle Mbongo. The winner was Dineo Kwetepane for her involvement in choir, traditional choir and orchestra.
