Fun outfits and gifts for animals

The school looked like a zoo as girls dressed as dogs, cats and cows, tigers, leopards and elephants, flamingos, bunnies and magical unicorns filled our campus.

This past week was all about the animals at St Teresa’s Junior Primary School in Craighall Park.

Computer educator and marketing manager at St Teresa’s School, Lianda May said, “On Thursday 15 October, we celebrated the feast of St Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment, with an animal-themed civvies day. The school looked like a zoo as girls dressed as dogs, cats and cows, tigers, leopards and elephants, flamingos, bunnies and magical unicorns filled our campus.”

She added that the girls were asked to bring a voluntary donation of pet food, pet blankets and pet toys to make up packs for Santa Cause for Paws which is a registered non- profit organisation that collects gifts for various animal shelters across South Africa. “We were once again blown away by the generosity of our girls and their families.

“We are also extremely proud of Georgia Drysdale in Grade 3 who decided she wanted to raise money for DogTown and also Kitty and Puppy Haven. DogTown as well as Kitty and Puppy Haven are sanctuaries that aim to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs and cats who have lost their families or have been rescued from dire situations,” May explained.

She concluded that Georgia used her computer skills to create an advert using PowerPoint, printed flyers and handed them out to people walking their dogs in the park near her home. With the help of her sister, Julie Drysdale (Grade 1), they sold doughnuts and dog treats in the park and raised an incredible R1 375.
