ALERT: Severe thunderstorms expected to hit Gauteng on 6 October

JOHANNESBURG – The South African Weather Service advised citizens to be cautious on the roads and at home during this time.

The South African Weather Service has warned the public of the possibility of severe thunderstorms that are expected to hit Gauteng on Tuesday, 6 October.

The weather service said temporary flooding of low-level crossings and susceptible low-lying areas is expected as well as temporary disruption to traffic due to reduced visibility and flooded areas, especially during peak late afternoon and early evening traffic.

“Hail of damaging nature may occur which may result in vehicle damages. Excessive lightning may result in power surges in areas,” the weather service warned.

In Johannesburg, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. The temperature will reach a maximum of 22°C.
