JOBURG – Police members along with the Gauteng Liquor Board disposed of confiscated and illegal liquor from unlicensed outlets at the Central Joburg Police Station on 2 October.

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety joined the provincial police commissioner in a community effort to dispose of about 17 000 litres of alcohol in Parktown.

Gauteng Commissioner of the Police, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela was joined by the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Ms Faith Mazibuko on Friday morning (2 October). The disposal of confiscated liquor took place at the Johannesburg Central Police Station on 2 October.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, the abuse of alcohol contributes immensely to the commission of serious and violent crimes, including gender-based violence. “In an effort to minimise the level of crime, police in Gauteng, working with the Gauteng Liquor Board, have been closing down illegal liquor outlets, issuing fines to liquor outlets not complying with license regulations and confiscating liquor found at those premises during Operation O Kae Molao and other crime prevention operations,” she said.
