Wear your slippers and support Reach for a Dream’s Slipper Week

They are still engaging with children, families and medical teams across South Africa, and have had to adapt to the 'new normal' by having a list of dream children in waiting.

Reach for a Dream Foundation believes dreams cannot be locked down and looks forward to hosting a Virtual Slipper Week from 10 to 16 August.

Reach for a Dream recently celebrated 32 years of fulfilling the dreams of children across South Africa faced with life-threatening illnesses. The Covid-19 pandemic has meant that some adjustments needed to be made to allow the foundation to continue to fulfill dreams. They are still engaging with children, families and medical teams across South Africa, and have had to adapt to the ‘new normal’ by having a list of dream children in waiting.

The annual Slipper Day event, which is Reach for a Dream’s largest fundraising campaign, was scheduled to take place on 8 May this year, but due to the lockdown it was postponed. This resulted in the foundation experiencing a setback in terms of funding, which impacts the work that they do.

With this in mind, the foundation teamed up with their longstanding partner, Wimpy, to launch Slipper Week.  The foundation calls on all South Africans to make a donation to the cause and share a slipper selfie on social media during Slipper Week tagging @ReachForADream and @WimpySA with the hashtags #BetterTogetherMoments and #VirtualSlipperWeek. For every donation of R30 and above, donors will receive a free filter coffee voucher from their nearest Wimpy.

Wimpy marketing executive Jacques Cronje said, “Now more than ever, we need to support our children and by giving these vulnerable children hope, we can help to make their dreams a reality. This is an opportunity for us to show the spirit of South Africa, of Ubuntu, of togetherness.”
