Play your part in providing schoolgirls with feminine hygiene products

The Dis-Chem Foundation said, "We are extremely pleased to be running the #MillionComforts campaign again this year, especially during this time when people are experiencing additional financial difficulties due to the ripple effect brought on by Covid-19.

Actor Clement Maosa recently took part in the #MillionComforts campaign at Dis-Chem Rosebank.

The Skeem Saam actor went to fill his trolley with sanitary pads from the shop in the #TrolleyChallenge. The ongoing #MillionComforts campaign comes after Richard Mabaso, CEO of The Imbumba Foundation in Sandton, continues to challenge celebrities, ambassadors, as well as CEOs and executives of its biggest corporate partners to join him at a Dis-Chem store to fill up a trolley and purchase sanitary pads which will be donated to the #MillionComforts campaign.

Studies reveal that school girls miss on average 50 days of school a year due to the lack of sanitary pads. For the past seven years the Dis-Chem Foundation has been working with The Imbumba Foundation to help provide schoolgirls who do not have access to feminine hygiene products, with sanitary pads. Sherry Saltzman, co-head of the Dis-Chem Foundation said, “We are extremely pleased to be running the #MillionComforts campaign again this year, especially during this time when people are experiencing additional financial difficulties due to the ripple effect brought on by Covid-19.

In recent years we have topped 10 million units and we hope that South Africans will join us to contribute to this most worthy cause. “The Dis-Chem Foundation has placed bins at 170 stores national wide to facilitate donations from customers and sanitary products may also be donated when purchasing online. The Dis-Chem Foundation has partnered with several leading sanitary protection brands such as Always, Comfitex, Kotex, Libress, Lil-lets and Stayfree, who have pledged to match donations made by Dis-Chem customers. Customers are also encouraged to add their comfort by donating pads from these listed brands.”

There is nothing more important than education, yet schoolgirls continue to miss valuable school days due to lack of proper sanitary protection. They are forced to use socks filled with sand, face cloths, small towels, grass and even plastic packets which are both ineffective and unhygienic,” said Richard Mabaso.

He continued, “We are extremely passionate about this programme and encourage corporates as well as consumers to go to your nearest Dis-Chem store and donate to the #MillionComforts campaign.”
