The upgrade of certain roads has commenced in Greenside and will continue for at least three weeks.
As the Rosebank Killarney Gazette reported in Greenside roads to undergo upgrades [Week ending 19 June], residents can expect road disruptions. Project community liaison officer, Dave Drinkwater said after detailed analysis of the work to be undertaken and to ensure the safety of motorists and work teams.
The following closure will be in effect while construction takes place:
- Gleneagles Road: Closed from Greenfield Road intersection travelling west, only businesses, clients and residents allowed to enter. There is no through road. You need to turn around and exit through the opening at the Greenfield intersection. Cars travelling east will be diverted down Greenfield to get to Barry Hertzog Avenue.
- Closed for traffic travelling straight from Barry Hertzog east towards Greenfield, cars will be diverted right into Greenway along a contraflow demarcated road lane.
- Greenway Road: Closed from Greenway turning right into Gleneagles, there is no right turn across the intersection from Greenway into Gleneagles
- Traffic diverted to contraflow lane towards Gleneagles, traffic can turn left into Gleneagles towards Barry Hertzog.
Greenway Road will be the main conduit to and from Barry Hertzog/Gleneagles intersection. This is so the roadway of the intersection can be removed, newly raised crossings constructed and roadway relaid.
Drinkwater said, “Motorists are advised to avoid the area as a through road as there will be congestion due to the narrow and slow diversion and rather use Barry Hertzog or 7th Avenue and other routes to move from Linden towards Rosebank.”
Residents in the Greenside area are advised that there will likely be an increase in traffic in the suburb side roads and to exercise extreme caution when walking, jogging etc. especially in the morning and evenings.” Drinkwater added that as changes were made, there would be updates.
