City of Johannesburg apologises for delay in municipal accounts

JOHANNESBURG – The City of Johannesburg has notified customers that there will be no interest charged on late payments on current accounts as a result of the late billing.

The City of Johannesburg would like to advise its customers that there is a city-wide delay in the posting of municipal accounts.

According to a statement by the City’s Communications and Stakeholder Management director Kgamanyane Maphologela, as a result of the delay, customers will be receiving the June 2020 statements late and, in some cases, after their usual date.

“We encourage customers to continue to pay their municipal accounts as per their normal monthly average consumption. No interest will be charged on late payments on current (30 days) accounts as a result of late billing,” Maphologela stated.

He added that customers whose finances have been negatively impacted by Covid-19 pandemic and are unable to pay their rates should make payment arrangements in order to avoid penalties on overdue accounts. Maphologela said, “They do not have to visit City’s offices as arrangements can be made via email by sending required documents to the provided email address where dedicated staff members will be ready to assist.

“The City would like to apologise to all its customers who have been adversely affected by these delays, and thank them for their understanding and co-operation.”

Details: Residents can send an email for arrangements on payments to creditcontrol@joburg.org.za
