DSJ Schulbasar incorporates food drive for Guild Cottage

PARKTOWN – The drive was extremely well supported by the community and Guild Cottage now has enough food to get them through the winter.

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Johannesburg recently ran their first online food drive.

The school in Parktown may have canceled their annual, century-old Schulbasar, but it was going to take more than Covid-19 to break their spirits. According to marketing and public relations manager at the school, Savo Ceprnich, instead of beer and bratwurst, the school ran a Going for Guild Food Drive, with all proceeds going to the school’s neighbours, Guild Cottage.

“The drive was extremely well supported by the community and Guild Cottage now has enough food to get them through the winter,” he said. In addition to this, guests were encouraged to dress up and celebrate the event (this year would have been the 113th annual Schulbasar) from home, and send their photos and videos.

Ceprnich said, “The day proved to be a massive success and organisers are extremely grateful to the community for their support.”
