Pikitup Norwood Depot resumes operations

NORWOOD – Pikitup Norwood Depot recommenced operations on 8 June.

Pikitup, the waste management company of the City of Johannesburg, re-opened the Norwood depot on 8 June.

The Norwood depot was closed after suspected cases of Covid-19 were reported. According to a media statement released by Pikitup, the results of the suspected cases have been released and all tested negative for the virus.

“The depot was supposed to have been re-opened on 1 June, however, not all the test results had been received and management took a decision to continue with the closure of the depot to protect employees from the virus,” Pikitup stated.

They added that during the closure, the depot was disinfected and employees were requested to self-isolate in line with the National Department of Health and the World Health Organizations’ (WHO) protocols for Covid-19.

Pikitup further stated that, “Despite the closure of the depot, the operational services were augmented to ensure that areas covered by the Norwood depot were still serviced. Employees have been subjected to medical screening before they resumed their waste management duties.”
