Old Parks pays tribute to life-member, Chris Ogden

He had represented Old Parks in six sporting codes; namely baseball, football, hockey, squash, cricket, and bowls.

The Old Parktonian Sports Club has paid tribute to Chris Waites Ogden, who passed away on 27 March.

Ogden was a life-member at Old Parks, having joined in 1965 and never left. “Chris was the embodiment of what it means to be an Old Parks club supporter,” Club manager Lizette Driescher told the Gazette.

“His presence as a life member of the club stretched over 50 years and his loyalty was shown in his participation in almost all the sports presented at the club and being a regular visitor in his later years. Even ill-health could not keep him away from his regular spot at the pub.”

She said that Ogden remained a positive and light-hearted presence throughout, and was part of the fibre of Old Parks.” He will be dearly missed by all at Old Parks.”

In a Facebook post, Old Parks paid tribute to Ogden, mentioning that rarely a weekend went by without his presence.” He had represented Old Parks in six sporting codes; namely baseball, football, hockey, squash, cricket and bowls,” the post added.”

Cricket was his big love and he had played for, and represented, the Old Parks 1st XI touring side. Chris even sponsored some of our less fortunate cricketers at his own cost.

There is a plaque in the main bar, opposite those of the Springboks, dedicated to our beloved Chris which reads: ‘Chris Ogden – drinking since 1965’. We will miss your presence and energy at the club Chris, may your soul rest in peace.”
