SASSA resolves payment glitch

The technical glitch in the payment system affected an estimated 450 000 beneficiaries.

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) today (5 May) confirmed that its payment system glitch has been fully resolved.

The agency reported that the system experienced technical glitches, on 4 May, affecting an estimated 450 000 Old Age Grant recipients in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to a statement by the agency, less than 10 per cent of its beneficiaries who were supposed to be paid were affected.

“SASSA wishes to apologise to all beneficiaries for the inconvenience caused by this,” the agency said in a statement.

The agency added that officials deployed to monitor various pay points in the region reported there were no complications as payments progressed smoothly.

The agency has assured beneficiaries that the payment file for all grants scheduled to be paid on 6 May has been verified with no discrepancies.

For further enquiries, affected beneficiaries are encouraged to contact the SASSA customer care number on 033 846 3400 or 0800 601011.
