Department of Health launches #HealthcareHeroes series on Workers’ Day

Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize acknowledged frontline workers and others saying, "We appreciate you. Happy Workers' Day."

This Workers’ Day, the Department of Health is celebrating healthcare workers and other essential service workers for their sacrifices on the front line.

The department tweeted that they wish to celebrate the following workers for their contributions to the fight against Covid-19:

  • Healthcare workers on the front line
  • Essential workers who keep cities running and stores stocked
  • Workers who stay home to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize acknowledged the heroes saying, “We appreciate you. Happy Workers’ Day.”

The department also launched the #HealthcareHeroes series, celebrating all healthcare workers and support staff who risk their lives daily to battle Covid-19 and keep the country safe.

Sister Maleshane Letsholo from Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital is filmed singing about the virus.

In the video she said, “I’m just here to encourage you guys to stay home, wash your hands, avoid close contact with anyone.

“Help us fight this coronavirus. You stay at home and I’m out here fighting it. How about that?”

Letsholo concluded, “Together, we are stronger.”
