On 28 March, the Gazette’s journalist Sarah Koning took to the normally busy streets of Rosebank, Parkwood, Greenside and Houghton Estate to suss out the situation.

 

Number 2: Operation Hunger helps ensure people stay healthy during lockdown

The Operation Hunger #feedafamily campaign enables anyone to donate from R200 on the Operation Hunger website towards a food and sanitising pack for a vulnerable family. Once a donation is received, dry bulk foods, tinned foods and sanitary items are purchased and packed at a local supermarket.

 

Number 3: Covid-19: Charlotte Maxeke medical professionals design intubox

Professor Feroza Motara together with three other medical professors and doctors from the emergency department and intensive care units at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital have designed an intubox.

 

Number 4: Covid-19: Get tested in the comfort of your car at Wanderers Rugby Club

HealthInsite in partnership with Mullah Laboratories has set up a mobile Covid-19 testing facility at Wanderers Rugby Club, allowing the public to be tested in the comfort of their car.

The drive-in test costs R1 190 and takes place at the Wanderers rugby grounds adjacent to the Imperial Wanderers Cricket Stadium.

 

Number 5: New lar gibbon baby born at the Joburg Zoo

Johannesburg Zoo announced that on 23 March, a lar gibbon baby was born.

Lar gibbons, also known as white-handed gibbons, are considered to be an endangered species. They are part of the lesser-known ape species and are found in forests of Southeast Asia. They live in monogamous pairs with their offspring.
