Online fitness class raises R25 000 for the Teddy Bear Clinic

PARKTOWN – The online fitness class raised R25 000 for the Teddy Bear Clinic

Fitness instructor Taz Falconer helped raise R25 000 for the Teddy Bear Clinic through an online fitness class on 19 April.

Since the start of the national lockdown, Falconer has continued to host an array of fitness classes in an effort to keep the community moving.

“I had never anticipated such a good response, we created an 18-day ‘Stay Fit and Learn to Split’ challenge and ended up getting quite a lot of sign-ups from all over South Africa and even some from abroad,” she said.

After seeing the initial success of the fitness challenge, she decided to try and put together a fundraising event.

Falconer decided to partner with the Teddy Bear Clinic in particular after reading reports about the increase in reports of abuse during the lockdown.

“When I contacted them to find out if they would allow me to run a fundraiser they explained how their fundraising had come to a halt due to lockdown and so the online fundraiser seemed like the perfect solution,” she said.

Many of Falconer’s regular client base supported the event along with many others who joined after hearing about the fundraiser on social media.

“My team and I have been so inspired by the uptake from our community and the willingness to try something new while priorities health in this time,” she concluded.
