ICYMI: City of Joburg to introduce SMS notification for municipal statements during lockdown period

JOBURG - The initiative is to ensure that customers receive their monthly municipal statements in the comfort of their homes.

The City of Johannesburg announced on 15 April that customers who have signed up to their e-services and those who receive their municipal statements via email and or Post Office, that statements will also now be sent to them through SMS notification.

MMC for Finance in the City of Joburg, councillor Jolidee Mantogo said the initiative was introduced due to the Covid-19 lockdown to ensure that customers received their monthly municipal statements in the comfort of their homes.

“SMS notifications containing customer invoices will be sent to the customers via their cell phones as it appears on our billing system. SMSes will contain a link to the actual statement which can be viewed through a secured portal or sent via email as per customer preference.”

If customers want to validate the SMS they can visit the City’s website 

Easy steps to register online:

  1. Register on City of Joburg website 
  2. Click on e-services on the home page
  3. It will then ask you to fill in your personal details, choose a username and password
  4. Once registered you can now log in using your username and password.
