Huggett helps feed the vulnerable in Ward 73

NORWOOD – Ward 73 councillor Eleanor Huggett says she longs to see the needy fed during lockdown.

Ward 73 councillor Eleanor Huggett said she was working hard to provide food to vulnerable people in her ward during the lockdown.

“I have been compiling lists of residents in need with the help of one of our residents and sending it to social development. I did the first delivery door-to-door but have now arranged to have it all delivered to the bowling club opposite Norwood Police Station where residents can sign for them once delivered,” said Huggett.

She added that through her telegram group, she had requested donations and assistance from Ward 73 residents.

Huggett expressed her thanks to Lerato Ndlovu of the Department of Social Development and many residents who have submitted names of families in need within the ward.

Social development has provided vegetables and with the help of Vision Tactical Covid Relief and the Muslim Association of South Africa, many needy community members have received food parcels.

“To date, they have delivered 300 food parcels in Orange Grove and Norwood and approximately 20 000 across Johannesburg. The team goes out eight to 10 times a day providing relief,” said Huggett.

Chair of the Lower Houghton Residents Association, Natalie Webb said the association would bulk up the vegetable parcels with other essential items.

Any families in need of food should sign up for donations on www.forms.gle/EbB2rDksUbMrsBdz6 or WhatsApp Huggett on
