Covid-19: No door-to-door screening in Ward 117, says Councillor Tim Truluck

PARKHURST – It is untrue that test kits are contaminated with Covid-19.

Ward councillor Tim Truluck said there was no door-to-door screening for Covid-19 planned to take place in Ward 117.

Truluck quoted DA Shadow Minister of Health Siviwe Gwarube concerning a viral video claiming testing would spread Covid-19.

Gwarube said the video contained inaccurate information and it was untrue that test kits were contaminated with the coronavirus.

“The community health workers who will be going into communities will be screening people who may have symptoms in order to arrange testing to be done for them at the nearest facility. There will be no tests done in people’s homes. They will screen you [take you temperature and ask questions] for flu-like symptoms,” added Gwarube.

Gwarube urged members of the public to stop sharing this video since it would cause unnecessary panic.

“It is fake news. And spreading it will mean you are in contravention of the regulations and you are spreading fake news.”

Screening is expected to take place in Ward 69 (Brixton, Coronationville, Hurst Hill, Melville, Westdene etc.) and Ward 82 (Bosmont, Newlands, Westbury, etc.) on 6 April.

On 7 April, screening is scheduled to take place in Ward 82 (Bosmont, Newlands, Westbury, etc.) and Ward 86 (Albertville, Florida Glen, Bergbron, Northcliff Ext 21, Greymont, Sophiatown, etc.).

On 8 April, the screening will take place in Ward 68 (Industria West, Homestead Park, Langlaagte, Longdale, etc.) and on 9 April, screening is expected to take place in Ward 98 (Aldrada Park, Berario, Fairland, Windsor, Randpark, etc.).

Residents are urged to call the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) hotline on 080 002 9999 if they have any questions.
