Two arrested for running a factory during the lockdown and for attempting to bribe a police officer

BENROSE – The suspects failed to provide the business's permit to operate as an essential service during the lockdown.

On 6 April, the police alongside the Department of Labour and the Directorate Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) embarked on a joint crime operation in Benrose.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Noxolo Kweza said the operation saw the arrest of two suspects aged 33 and 42 who were charged for the contravention of the Disaster Management Act and the Health and Safety Act, and for attempting to bribe a police officer.

“The team pounced on a factory manufacturing cleaning equipment and plastic ware in Benrose, Johannesburg and the suspects failed to provide the business’s permit to operate as an essential service during the lockdown, and instead attempted to bribe police officers,” said Kweza.
