Murder suspect hands himself over to police in Joburg Central

JOBURG CENTRAL – The suspect is due to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court.

A 26-year-old murder suspect has been arrested after he handed himself over to the police at Johannesburg Central Police Station on 6 April after he heard that they were searching for him.

According to Johannesburg Central police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele the murder occurred on the corner of Ellof and Smallen streets. “It is alleged that the suspect assaulted a 30-year-old male with an unknown object on the head. The victim had a gashing wound in his head. Paramedics certified him dead on the scene. The motive for the murder is not yet known.”

The suspect heard that police were hot on his heels and decided to hand himself over. He has been charged for murder and an investigation is ongoing, Mbele added.

The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on 8 April.
