Sector Forum 4 sees a need to keep Louis Botha Avenue tidy

NORWOOD – The initiative aims to educate residents about hygiene and properly disposing of waste.

To ensure that their suburbs remain environmental healthy, local Johannesburg north-eastern residents have started their own weekly clean-up initiative.

The initiative is led by Sector 4 which forms part of the Norwood Community Policing Forum and participants are working together to clean up the area including the infamous Louis Botha Avenue.

The clean-up initiative was started in February and according to one of the organisers and deputy chairperson of the forum, Nomcebiso Ngqimembi, it was well supported.

Ngqimembi said the aim was to ensure that their neighbourhood was clean and to also educate people about the benefits of living in a clean and healthy environment.

She added, “Again, there is an influx of people around this area and that is one of the causes that makes the area so dirty because people just litter anywhere. We think, as a sector forum, we have an obligation to assist and even further educate our people to act responsibly and use the provided bins to dispose of waste.”

She said in the midst of the Covid-19 outbreak they would still urge people to keep the area clean.
