Covid-19: Municipal services continues unabated during national lockdown

JOHANNESBURG – The Norwood Police Station spokesperson confirmed that there has been a decrease in criminal activities in their areas of service.


Basic municipal services continue as expected across the City of Johannesburg while local crime has seen a decreased since the national lockdown.

Ward 74 councillor David Fisher said supply of water and electricity has not been disrupted and waste collection continues as expected. “We haven’t received any reports of disruptions but I can confirm that the municipal services around the suburbs continues as normal and expected,” he said.

“As councillors, we have received permits and we continue to work with various stakeholders across the City of Johannesburg. I personally prefer to be behind my desk and since the lockdown, the communication between the community and my office has increased. Services continue across the ward and nothing has really changed.”

He added that there has been a decline in the number of crime incidents around the area and things are seemingly quiet.

Sergeant Eric Masotsha, the spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, confirmed that there has been a decrease in criminal activities in their areas of service. “We have definitely seen a decline in a number of major crimes such as murder, robbery and other contact crimes in our area. The only crimes we are seeing at the moment is the domestic violence and shoplifting at the most,” said Masotsha.
