Murder suspect finally arrested in Jeppestown

JEPPESTOWN – The suspect will appear soon in court facing another charge of possession of an illegal gun.


A man wanted in connection with a murder in the policing precinct of Jeppe Police Station was finally arrested with two other men at their hideout at Madala hostel in Jeppestown.

The arrest occurred on 11 March following a tip-off from the community, according to the spokesperson for the Jeppe police, Captain Richard Munyayi, adding that two illegal firearms were also recovered.

“Our officers received information that a wanted suspect for a murder case was at Madala hostel and they proceeded to the place to the said room where three males were found sleeping,” Munyayi said.

“Upon arrival, they knocked at the door but there was no response and they had to kick the door open. Police searched the room and found a Beretta pistol with serial numbers filed off with six rounds under a bed. They continued to search and found a second firearm and an extra magazine with 12 live rounds.”

All three suspects were arrested and taken to Jeppe Police Station where they were charged for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“The murder suspect was also charged and he also faces a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm since the three of them failed to disclose the owner of the firearms.”

They will appear in court soon as police investigations were continuing, he concluded.
