Woman left critically injured after gas cylinder explodes

BEREA – A woman was found to be in a critical condition after an LPG cylinder struck her in the leg.


On 28 March, a woman was left critically injured when a liquid petroleum gas (LPG) bottle exploded on Soper Road in Berea, Johannesburg.

The woman was found lying on the pavement when ER24 paramedics, City of Johannesburg EMS and another emergency service arrived on the scene.

“Medics assessed the woman and found that she had sustained a serious injury to her left leg and was in a critical condition. It is believed that a piece of the LPG cylinder had struck her in the leg,” explained Russel Meiring of the communication’s office of ER24.

Meiring said the woman was treated for her injuries and provided with advanced life support interventions before she was transported to Charlotte Maxeke Provincial Hospital for urgent care.

The relevant authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
