Six nabbed for selling alcohol illegally in Yeoville and Hillbrow

JOBURG CENTRAL – The police arrested six people in Hillbrow and Yeoville respectfully for selling alcohol illegally during the 21-day national lockdown that was declared by President Cyril Ramaphosa.


Two suspects were arrested by Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) operations officers at the corner of Hunter and Raymond streets in Yeoville over the weekend. 

Chief of JMPD David Tembe said on Twitter that the suspects were arrested for selling liquor without a licence and contravening the National Disaster Management Act. A number of cases of beer were confiscated.

In an unrelated incident, four suspects were arrested at the corner of Esselen and Claim streets in Hillbrow for selling liquor illegally. They were also charged for contravening the National Disaster Management Act.

A total of 284 liquor sachets were also confiscated by the police.

The arrested suspects are being detained at Hillbrow Police Station.
