No dramatic incidents reported in Norwood and surrounds on first day of lockdown

NORWOOD – A police operation is underway until about 10pm.


The first day of lockdown went according to plan in Johannesburg’s north-eastern suburbs.

This is according to the authorities in the area who said they had not received complaints of disobedience.

Ward 74 councillor, David Fisher, said councillors ensured there was effective communication between themselves and their residents. He said he was behind his desk for most of the day to monitor the situation. “We plead with residents to continue being responsible and take the situation seriously. Those who might need any advice regarding the situation are free to contact their councillors,” said Fisher.

Ward 72 councillor Irene Rugheimer also said it was peaceful in her ward.

Norwood police spokesperson, Sergeant Eric Masotsha, said, “We haven’t heard of any situations and no arrests have been made yet in connection to the shutdown. We have an operation that is currently underway until late at night – around 10pm – and so we can only know afterwards,” he said.
