Illegal speed bumps removed from Highlands North’s 3rd Avenue

HIGHLANDS NORTH – People need to familiarise themselves with the City's processes and regulations.

Residents wanting to have speed bumps erected on their roads are encouraged to apply with the City of Johannesburg rather than doing it themselves.

This was a stern warning from Ward 74 councillor David Fisher following the removal of two illegal street humps erected just behind the Highlands North Boys’ High School opposite the park.

According to Fisher, the two humps were erected illegally without following proper processes with the City’s roads entity, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

The humps were far too high and they posed a serious danger to the cars that travel on that road, said Fisher.

“People who want humps they need to consult with JRA and follow due processes and not do it themselves which is dangerous,” he said.

“We know that the process is not so easy and [it] takes quite some time but it is a process which needs to be followed. When you apply, JRA will send an engineer that will come do an evaluation to check if really it is something that is required or not.”

People need to familiarise themselves with the City’s processes and regulations so that they are educated on what is needed, he concluded.
