Norwood police promotes 31 members to high-ranking officials

NORWOOD – The officers have been waiting for nine years to be ranked as sergeants.

Members at the Norwood Police Station were recently promoted to increase capacity in the fight against crime in their precinct.

Formerly constables, 30 of the members served nine years at the station while one was recently relocated from the Northern Cape.

They were all officially promoted and awarded their ranking medals by the station commander, Brigadier Alpheus Mahasha at the ceremony at the station on 20 March, according to station spokesperson Sergeant Eric Masotsha.

At the ceremony, Mahasha congratulated the newly promoted sergeants saying they have been waiting for nine years to be where they are today.

The station commander also encouraged them to work diligently saying the rank comes with more responsibility as well.

According to Masotsha, initially, members were supposed to have been awarded their ranks in December 2019 but due to internal logistics, the ceremony was halted until 20 March.

He, however, said the wait did not deter the members from committing to their job but continued to serve and protect as expected.

“We applaud them for a job well done since joining the force and we hope this will bring motivation to them and continue fighting crime in our precinct,” Masotsha said.

“Now we are in full force to combat crime in our area. To the public, we say we are now fully motivated and we hope to invite you to work with us as we intensify the fight against crime in our communities.”

The new ranks come at the right time when a new executive committee for the Norwood Community Policing Forum (NCPF) was recently appointed.

“Everything is new now, we have new sergeants and new CPF executive members. This gives us more confidence in our fight against crime.”
