Netcare Milpark Hospital is prepared for Covid-19

MILPARK – Netcare Milpark Hospital is ensuring that everyone who enters their facility cleans their hands with an alcohol rub or alcohol spray made available at the hospital.

Netcare Milpark Hospital assures the public that they have taken steps to prepare for any possible Covid-19 cases.

Group medical director of Netcare Dr Anchen Laubscher said that Netcare formed a multi-disciplinary task team as soon as the outbreak of a new coronavirus in China was made public in early January, to ensure that all Netcare Group operations would be fully prepared for the possible spread in South Africa.

Netcare has been closely cooperating with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) and the Department of Health and aligned their protocols with the guidelines specified by these entities.

“We have also implemented comprehensive measures to detect, identify and respond appropriately to any suspected or confirmed cases of Covid-19 at our group’s facilities, including Netcare Milpark Hospital,” said Laubscher.

The hospital is equipped with isolation facilities, which were in place before the emergence of Covid-19. “Should any person with Covid-19 be admitted, they will be individually isolated and nursed in order to protect other persons being cared for in hospital.”

When the first case of the virus was announced in South Africa, Netcare implemented a number of additional precautionary measures including risk assessing and screening all persona entering the facility for Covid-19 risk as the first line of defence and further screening where it is indicated that a person may be at risk.

All those entering the facility must clean their hands with an alcohol rub or alcohol spray made available at the hospital. The hospital has also restricted visiting times as well as the number of visitors that may visit each patient.

Laubscher recommended that community members access www.sacoronavirus.co.za for more information on precautions and the latest developments in South Africa.
