Gautrain suspended buses departing from Rosebank yesterday, 17 March. Shortly thereafter, Gautrain released a statement stating that the transporting service will not be suspending buses or trains until further notice.
“Gautrain service are operating according to schedule and we will promptly communicate any changes in this regard,” said Gautrain spokesperson Kesagee Nayager.
The transporting service said that they support President Cyril Ramaphosa’s instruction to ensure social distancing and to avoid non-essential domestic travel, particularly by air, rail, taxis and bus.

“Where possible, we encourage you to work from home. This limitation on travel is necessary to help reduce the spread of the virus.”
Gautrain has implemented the following measures to help contain the spread of the virus:
- Hand sanitisers have been made available at all stations
- During maintenance hours, air ducts on the trains are treated with disinfectants
- Handrails, door handles and station washrooms are cleaned every day with alcohol-based disinfectants
- Employees with the risk of exposure will self-isolate without loss of benefits
- Gautrain will cover testing costs for its employees.
