Water problems in River Park forces the city to close local library

RIVER PARK – The department recently issued a notice informing residents about its decision to close the library citing safety and health risks to facility users.

The Department for Community Development, Library and Information Services in the City of Johannesburg has urged users and community members of River Park Library to use alternative libraries until the local library re-opens.

This was after the City took a decision to close down River Park Library due to water pressure problems in River Park and surrounding areas.

The department recently issued a notice informing residents about its decision to close the library, citing safety and health risks to the users of the facility.

“River Park Library will remain closed due to continuous water pressure challenges resulting in hygienic conditions which poses safety and health risks to facility users. The library will only re-open when an alternative solution has been found,” the department said in a statement.

Residents were urged to utilise neighbouring libraries such as Linbro Park Library, Sandringham Library, Alexandra 3rd Avenue Community Library and Alexandra 8th Avenue Library in Thusong Centre.

Joburg Water spokesperson Isaac Dhludhlu said he was not aware of water pressure challenges in the area.

“Department for Community Development must follow channels and log a call with Joburg Water so that teams can be sent to assist,” Dhludhlu said.
