BRAMLEY – The police officers retaliated forcing the vehicle to come to a halt.

A suspected hijacker is on the run and his accomplice was shot by police after they had allegedly hijacked a car in Tembisa on 6 March.

The two suspects allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm and was ordered out of the vehicle, added Mogodi.

“They then got into his vehicle and drove away. The victim allegedly approached the Ekurhuleni Metro police who happened to have been patrolling in the area, for help. The members then followed the hijacked vehicle while summoning help from other units.”

Tshwane police Flying Squad and Ekurhuleni Metro police members chased the hijacked vehicle on the M1 freeway in a southerly direction.

The hijackers took the Corlett Drive off-ramp and were about to make a U-turn onto the M1 north when they apparently began shooting at the police.

“The police officers retaliated forcing the vehicle to come to a halt. One suspect got out and disappeared into a stream while the other was arrested at the scene,” said Mogodi.

An unlicensed firearm and ammunition were recovered and police have launched a manhunt for the other suspect.
