Two suspects arrested, one on the run after robbery at Mayfair train station

MAYFAIR –

Johannesburg Central Police Station officers arrested two suspects for common robbery in Fordsburg on 8 March at about 11am.

The spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central police, Xoli Mbele said, “Three suspects robbed a 21-year-old male [security guard] at Mayfair train station. The victim was busy on the phone while waiting for the train, The suspects surrounded him and grabbed his phone. He followed them until he saw a police vehicle and alerted them.”

According to Mbele, the victim got into the police vehicle and he pointed out the two suspects. They were arrested on the spot, however, the cell phone was not recovered. The third suspect is at large and an investigation is underway.

“We cannot rule out the possibility that the suspects may be linked to other cases,” Mbele added.

The two suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
