Instead of finding art on your own, why let art find you at a new exhibition in Rosebank.
The Zone @ Rosebank, in collaboration with graffiti artist Falko One, has launched a permanent art exhibition, The Walking Gallery, which pays a special tribute to South African legend Johnny Clegg.
Embracing the centre’s trendy and arty atmosphere, the exhibition showcases remarkable pieces of art created by renowned Capetonian graffiti artist Falko One, curated by the talented bureau BrainFarm. The walking gallery’s primary subject matter celebrates local culture, diversity, nature and beauty and serves as a platform to pay special tribute to iconic South Africans.
The most recent addition is The Crossing in honour of Johnny Clegg’s life, artistry and legacy. This piece can be viewed from underneath The Zone’s main extended bridge. Falko One realised that the bridge resembles a guitar neck and proposed using Johnny Clegg’s hands on the guitar while crossing this bridge, of course, ties in with the song.
Falko One is among the most respected and talented graffiti artists in the country and has been strongly influential in the growth of the South African graffiti culture. “This artwork is special to me – using the bridge to represent such a powerful song. The Crossing makes for a unique manner in which to celebrate one of our iconic musicians. It was an opportunity that I could not pass over,” said Falko One.
There are currently five hard-to-miss artworks throughout the mall – Mane Land, Octopool, Drink Green, Jack The Beanstalk and The Crossing with more commissions to come.
