Gauteng Community Safety to host GBV response plan at Johannesburg City Hall

JOBURG – The department will launch its response plan on 8 March which coincides with International Women's Day.

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko will launch the department’s gender-based violence (GBV) response plan at Johannesburg City Hall on 8 March.

The department posted that this coincided with International Women’s Day. The response plan will give effect to the President’s Emergency Response Action Plan (ERAP) on gender-based violence and femicide.

Mazibuko will unpack the five pillars underpinning the response plan, as adopted from the national emergency plan.

“The response plan includes, amongst others, provision of comprehensive and coordinated support for survivors in the criminal justice system through a network of 23 safety houses and victim empowerment centre in all five corridors.”

The plan will also include the setting up of a panel that will involve gender activists, civil society and private sector interventions against GBV and femicide.

The department is expecting various women to attend the event from law enforcement agencies, civil society and community members across all five corridors in the province.
