Road rage leads to the arrest of a taxi driver for attempted murder

JOBURG CENTRAL – According to the Johannesburg Central Police Station, the taxi driver fired two shots at the victim, but luckily he missed.


The Johannesburg Central Police Station arrested a 41-year-old man for attempted murder, and reckless and negligent driving on the corner of Bree and Sauer streets on 1 March.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central police, Captain Xoli Mbele said, “It is alleged that the suspect bumped a silver-grey Golf 5 belonging to a 46-year-old male along Jeppe Street. The victim followed him until the taxi rank. When he confronted him [the taxi driver], he swore at him, took out a firearm and fired two shots at the victim, luckily he missed. ”

Mbele said the victim ran for his life and reported the incident at the police station. Officers reacted quickly and arrested the suspect after the incident.

He added that the firearm had not been recovered but an investigation was underway.

The suspect will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
