Concierge walkers explore hidden gems of Rosebank
ROSEBANK – Discovering some hidden gems in Rosebank was exciting for the locals who embarked on the third Rosebank Concierge Walk.
The third Rosebank Concierge Walk was a success. Publisher of Rosebank in Your Pocket Mini Guide, Laurice Taitz-Buntman said the walk was a priority as they realised that the guide was not only for visitors but for locals as well. “Most locals don’t live where they work but they travel from the city and often don’t feel comfortable to explore.
” If you, who receive visitors all the time, don’t feel welcome in the neighbourhood, your visitors won’t feel welcome in the neighbourhood.”
She added that it, therefore, became important to make everyone feel welcome. Hence, in October they started the series of walks for Rosebank and they will launch the same for Sandton.
She said, “The idea is that visitors don’t have to constantly take out their cell phones in public in order to get around easily and find where places are. Rosebank is very special because it has walkability which is unlike most other suburbs. The more you explore the place the more you find something exciting hidden.”
Precinct manager for Excellerate Managed Services, Lerato Khiba said they placed security personnel in hotspots so that people feel safer. “The entrance to Rosebank Mall on Bath Avenue is one of the hotspots; we have had cases of people hailing e-taxis and some cars pretend to be those taxis then the vehicle occupants will come out and snatch people’s cell phones while they are waiting. Therefore, we encourage people to use their maps so as not to get lost.”
Excellerate Integrated Services manager Simon Molele added that they worked for hand in hand with the Rosebank police to increase safety in the precinct.
The walkers were given breakfast and refreshments at Rosebank’s Fournos before they embarked on their tour. The places visited included FotoZA Gallery, Rosebank Art & Craft Market, Thula Sindi, The Grillhouse and Katzy’s.
Taitz-Buntman said, “It is really about saying if there’s one thing that is going to create growth in South Africa it is tourism. We have to all work together and make tourism a success because it is a gift.”
