Gressworld Park hailed a successful story in uniting communities

GRESSWORLD – The park is well accepted and accessed by all the communities.

Ward 74 councillor David Fisher has hailed the recently renovated Gresswold Park as one of the Johannesburg north-eastern suburbs’ success stories.

The park underwent major redevelopments in 2017. New features were installed to ensure that the park caters for a friendly, outdoor atmosphere for families and children in the area.

According to Fisher, the park is well utilised by the community and continues to give residents a cohesive space to engage and unwind. He added that the park is well accepted and accessed by all the communities around Gresswold and the nearby Savoy suburbs. “The park has become a successful story for all the residents and visitors coming into this neighbourhood.

“It has become a social fabric of the community and, furthermore, it has become useful to build communities in this particular side of the suburbs. This is a truly successful story for City Parks and Zoo who are the custodians of this space.”

Work at the park started on 29 May 2017 and the project lasted for about three months with new installations including all-purpose soccer pitch. Fisher said a multipurpose court, new equipment, including benches, were installed as well as new trees planted to ensure it serves its purpose as a park.

The councillor said other park renovations at Kew Park, as reported in the North Eastern Tribune article Parks get a facelift [Week ending 14 February], are also on the cards and encourages communities in that area to utilise it in the same way when it is complete.
