Leshiba family extends a heartfelt gratitude to Adina and Glenoaks School

HOUGHTON– Junior's mother Irene Leshiba said the wheelchair has changed their lives and made things easier for them as the family.

Glenoaks Remedial and Special Needs School and Houghton Nursery School recently proved to be true agents of generosity after donating a brand new wheelchair to Junior Leshiba who is physically challenged.

Alex resident Junior who celebrated his 18th birthday on 14 February was diagnosed with TB meningitis which left him disabled when he was only three years old.

His mother shared their daily struggles every day when he has to enter or leave the house through a small passage leading to the main road in Alexandra.

Following the article, The Agony of Living [Week ending 22 November 2019], a Good Samaritan, Adina Feldman of Glenoaks School in partnership with Houghton Nursery School, lent a helping hand to Junior.

“I work at Glenoaks Remedial and Special Needs Schools in Kensington,” said Feldman. “We run an outreach programme where children collect bottle tops that are taken for recycling. We need 450kg of bottle tops to recycle and the recycling company gives us a wheelchair to donate to a worthy recipient. A colleague at work saw the article in the North Eastern Tribune about Junior and asked if we can donate a wheelchair to him.”

Junior’s mother Irene Leshiba said the wheelchair had changed their lives and made things easier for them as a family.

“I would like to thank Adina and the school for their generosity,” she said. “The wheelchair is really helping us a lot and makes things such as taking him to the school transport easier. We would also like to thank Ntate Linda Twala for his endless efforts to ensure that Junior has enough nappies. We urge those who can help us with donations like nappies and toiletries to lend a helping hand.”
