JOBURG – It is the Month of Love and this week’s line-up will not disappoint. Why not treat yourself to a special movie to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Bhai’s Café

All hell breaks loose when a small community is faced with the looming threat of gentrification. In Bhai’s Café, a community cornerstone comes under threat when a ruthless property developer has sinister plans for the Bhai’s Cafe. At the same time, Bhai’s daughter is swept off her feet by the property magnate’s son. Starring Mehboob Bawa, Siv Ngesi, and Suraya Rose sant, the film follows battles of epic comic proportions as Bhai and his family rally the community to save the café, the neighbourhood and a blossoming love affair. In cinemas 14 February.

 

Vergeet My Nie

A classic love story, Vergeet My Nie is based on Mardaleen Coetzer and Hugo Derks’ 90’s love story. Mardaleen, a strikingly cultured student stuck in the small town of Potchefstroom, yearns for the lights and culture of London. After a dreadful break up she packs her bags and sets off to her dream city with her best friend, Lara. An unexpected romance blossoms between Mardaleen and Namibian-born housemate, Hugo. Here, their journey to love starts again … but not without a few hurdles on their way. The nostalgic romance stars Marguerite van Eeden, Sean-Marco Vorster, and Fiona Ramsay. In cinemas 14 February.

Ordinary Love

A story about love, survival and the grand questions life throws at each and every one of us. Ordinary Love stars Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville as Tom and Joan, a married couple. When Joan is unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer, the course of her treatment shines a light on their relationship as they are faced with the challenges that lie ahead and the prospect of what might happen if something were to happen to her. In cinemas 14 February.

Queen and Slim

A street-twist to the classic Bonny & Clyde trope, Queen & Slim is a romantic crime drama centred around a young couple on the run. Slim and Queen’s first date takes an unexpected turn when a policeman pulls them over for a minor traffic violation. When the situation escalates, Slim takes the officer’s gun and shoots him in self-defence. Now labelled cop killers in the media, the couple feel go on the run and evade the law. The film stars Chloe Sevigny, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jodie Turner-Smith. In cinemas 14 February.
