Houghton Nursery School children donate wheelchair to disabled child

The donation is part of the school's outreach programme.

Children of Houghton Nursery School exercised their humanitarianism after they helped to donate a wheelchair to a needy disabled child in the area.

To achieve this, the children participated in a recycling project in which they collected empty plastic bottle tops in a scheme that allows for the purchase of a wheelchair.

According to Houghton Nursery School’s secretary Linda Lewis, the children worked with Adina Feldman of Glenoaks School.

Lewis said the project was part of Feldman’s outreach programme to assist the needy in the community.

“What Mrs Adina Feldman does is to collect plastic bottle tops from schools and the general public with over 450kg required to purchase a wheelchair,” explained Lewis.

“We at Houghton Nursery School are so proud to be part of this worthy and important initiative. Our parents, children and many neighbours continuously contribute.”

Jenifer Soicher, the nursery school principal and the school’s speech therapist, Lesley Bloch said they were passionate about this cause which had been ongoing for many years and would continue to be part of their outreach programme.
