How to be safe during load-shedding

Joburg– Public urged to be vigilant and to remember good personal safety habits.

According to research conducted by Fidelity ADT on crime trends this week, they have found that good personal safety habits should never be neglected, especially with the ongoingload-shedding all over the country.

National marketing and communications manager at Fidelity ADT, Charnel Hattingh said, “Law enforcement and security agencies are on alert to keep residents safe, especially during these extended periods of power disruption. We need the cooperation of the public to make sure that we prevent crime as far as possible.”

She added that one of the best ways to make the maximum impact was to be aware of your surroundings. “Whether you are driving somewhere, walking in a mall, or going for a run, make sure you are paying attention, and that you avoid any unnecessary risks. Remove anything from the equation that could distract you, such as headphones or your cell phone.”

Hattingh said this level of awareness should also extend to your street and your suburb. “If you see anything that seems to be out of the ordinary or to be amiss, it is best to immediately alert your security company, the local neighbourhood watch, or the police.”
