Overgrown grasses in Joburg north-east suburbs upsets residents

LYNDHURST – Councillor Rugheimer said she will act on the complaints.

There seems to be a lack of basic municipal services in Johannesburg’s north-eastern suburbs which residents complain about and even accuse their councillor of ignoring their plight.

In Lombardy East and Lyndhurst, some residents have expressed their frustration because of weeds, overgrown grass and trees that remain uncut on municipal property.

In Lombardy East, a resident has complained about an area adjacent to the Alex driving range claiming the site was not serviced by the City of Johannesburg. According to the resident, who contacted the North Eastern Tribune and wished to remain anonymous, this was frustrating and unacceptable. The resident said the unkempt land attracted criminals and rats.

In Lyndhurst, Perry Meyerson, a resident who lives in Hares Road also contacted the paper and complained about similar issues in his suburb.

Meyerson claimed that he had contacted City Parks and the City of Johannesburg to deal with the issues but to no avail.

He said the uncut trees and weeds hindered motorists’ vision and the fence by the river had been cut making a pathway for anyone to enter properties.

When contacted, Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer said she was aware of the situation in the suburbs and plans were underway to resolve them.

“I have reported many areas to City Power for grass cutting, tree trimming and skoffeling. Wordsworth and Cunning roads are some of the areas I reported,” said Rugheimer.
