Norwood Police Station joins hands with the local church in fight against crime and gender based violence

NORWOOD – The station used the opportunity to educate congregants about the role of community members in the fight against gender-based violence and other crimes.

A growing number of gender-based violence cases reported at Norwood Police Station has prompted its members to pray for divine intervention.

Led by Colonel Phetole Mahasha, members recently filled the holy benches of Maryvale Catholic Church to call upon God’s intervention on the scourge of gender-based violence.

The station’s spokesperson Eric Masotsha said their social crime unit used the opportunity to educate congregants about the role of community members’ involvement in the fight against gender-based violence and other crimes.

“The church is the most important institution in the community and it can play a vital role in the fight against crime. We visited Maryvale Catholic Church to seek divine intervention from the Man above. We also used the visit as an opportunity to raise awareness, educate and encourage congregants to help us in this war,” said Masotsha

He added the station was on a mission to join forces with all houses of worship in the area to strengthen its campaign in the fight against gender-based violence and other crimes.

He encouraged community members to utilise police contact numbers and call 0860 010 111 or 011 483 4600/09 to report any criminal activities in the area.
