Verity Park toilets get a revamp
PARKHURST – Toilet waste leaking into the children's play area at Verity Park was a cause for concern but not any more as the toilet revamps prove.
Residents who visit Verity Park in Parkhurst will be delighted to see the long-awaited revamp that the toilets at the park went through. According to a member of Parkhurst Residents and Business Owners Association (PRABOA) and Verity Park user group chair, Paul Johnson said they previously had issues with leaking waste into the children’s play area which Joburg Water came and sorted out.
Johnson added that there were also complaints from the park users that the toilets were not clean. “My friends at City Parks who had the financial capacity decided to contribute what they could towards that. They fixed the roof and all the leaks. They dug up the sewerage around the back and sorted that out too.”
He said the toilet for the disabled needed to be remodelled and have a ramp put in which he estimated would probably be done in the next financial year.
On a tour of the toilets, Johnson explained that they had been painted and had new ceilings, “It’s all nice and clean as well as a functionary. It is great to know that City Parks does respond and will contribute financially when a need arises.”
There are two toilets for the female side and two urinals for the male side. Johnson added that they had decided to keep the graffiti.
“The project began on 7 January and the team came and sorted everything out in a couple of weeks.” The team also cemented the pathway from the parking lot to the toilets with concrete.
