Johannesburg police issue R100k reward against New Year’s shooters

JOHANNESBURG – Two women died from gunshot wounds.


Johannesburg police are hunting the gunman or gunmen who fired shots at New Year festival-goers and patrons and are offering a reward for anyone who might assist with information.

Constable Constance Lelimo, the acting spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station on 13 January said, “We can confirm that a

R100 000 cash reward has been issued for any information that may lead to the arrest of the shooters.”

According to reports, two women were shot dead at Poppy’s restaurant in Melville while six other patrons were wounded and had to be hospitalised.

At Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, 11 people – seven men and four women – sustained gunshot wounds after shots were fired at revellers from what’s believed to be the M2 double-decker bridge.
