ANC Women’s League addresses LGBTIQ issues
JOBURG – ANCWL launches LGBTIQ desk to address needs and rights of the LGBTQ community.
In a notable moment for SA politics, the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) has launched its LGBTIQ Desk. This coincided with the party’s 108th birthday celebrations that took place in Kimberley on 10 January.
According to the ANCWL, the desk will function as a space for members of the LGBTIQ community to freely express themselves and impact the movement in its enunciation of policies and conference resolutions.
In addition to ensuring that programmes around political and socio-economic development are addressed, the desk was also set up to advocate for safety and security of the LGBTQ community.
The launch of the desk also follows 2015’s resolution by the party to open its membership to transgender women, however, membership of the desk is limited to women within the LGBTQ community.
