King David High School, Linksfield, obtains massive distinctions

LINKSFIELD – King David High School, Linksfield, prides itself on the 'outstanding' achievement recorded by its Matric Class of 2019.

King David High School, Linksfield, is incredibly proud of the achievements of all our students of the 2019 matric group, said principal Lorraine Srage when she announced the results for the school’s matric Class of 2019.

“How do you measure a year, or to quote the song Seasons of Love from the Broadway Musical Rent: How do you measure five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes? In daylights? In sunsets? In cups of coffee? In laughter? In strife? … We, at King David High School, Linksfield, can proudly say that we measure the year in success,” Srage said.

He said the success of the school’s matric class was, without a doubt, reflected in the outstanding matric results the school achieved in the IEB examinations. “All 147 students passed with all, except two, receiving a university entrance. A total of 552 distinctions were obtained, that is 3.75 distinctions per student, with 21 per cent of them achieving a ‘full house’ of seven distinctions or more.

Four students were placed on the IEB Outstanding Achievements List [within the top 5 per cent in six subjects or more and 80 per cent or more in life orientation] and six students were placed on the IEB Commendable Achievements List [within the top 5 per cent in five subjects and 80 per cent or more for life orientation]. What is particularly outstanding is that all of our students in the educational support programme obtained a university entrance.”

He said the achievements were testament to the hardworking students, the supportive parents and the dedicated professional teachers and these successes, undoubtedly, spoke for themselves. “We also measure success in the unspoken triumphs of our students who have had success not measured in distinctions and awards. We measure success also in the students who did not believe that they could pass matric, and did; the students who did not believe that they could obtain a university entrance and did; the students who did not even believe that matric was a vague possibility for them, but who did it.”
