Bryanston parkrun celebrates new beginnings

BRYANSTON – Runners came out to enjoy the first Saturday Bryanston parkrun for the new year on 4 January.


An estimated 1 000 enthusiasts of all ages gathered east of Bryanston to enjoy the first Saturday parkrun for the year on 4 January.

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and there was a strong sense of community as the race director Dennis Langton got everyone ready.

Among the people who ran, jogged and walked the course were 106 newcomers. A young runner, Christopher Richardson who is originally from the UK, was among the group. “It is great to see everyone come out. This parkrun is quite big so I am excited to get started,” Christopher said.

The first male runner to finish the course was Jean Mouton who finished in 00:17:54 while the first female runner, Precious Hlaka finished in 00:19:49.

While 82 runners recorded new personal bests others celebrated a significant milestone in their parkrun journey. Treasure Kgobokoe and Kaitlin van Schalkwyk celebrated their 50th parkrun. “I do enjoy getting up early and coming to parkrun because it is not only good for my health but it is refreshing,” said Kgobokoe.

The Bryanston parkrun continues to welcome new participants and organisers appealed to the community to get involved as volunteers. All parkrun events are free and the 5km course welcomes people of all ages. “We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace,” said Langton.

The Bryanston parkrun takes place every Saturday at 8am.
